2020 Family Highlights
We hope everyone is well and has survived the craziness of 2020. We hope to be able to travel and see family and friends in 2021.
Here are few things that happened this last year that we couldn't easily fit on a Christmas card..
Here are few things that happened this last year that we couldn't easily fit on a Christmas card..
- We all survived COVID (at least so far !)
- Rory is in his second year at Santa Clara University's Law School where he is doing extremely well (he made the Dean's list for his first year) despite all instruction being remote. His girlfriend Jessica ended up staying with us for several months during the lockdown ; we enjoyed getting to know her better.
- Tristan is in the final year of his PhD at Cambridge University. He came out to Los Gatos in March to escape COVID and was with us until returning to the UK in October so we had a houseful!
- Aidan continues to work at Lockheed Martin where security requirements mean he had to keep working onsite throughout the year. He and his spouse , Jessica, were planning to remodel the home they bought a couple of years ago, but the pandemic has put their plans on hold.
- COVID severely limited travel but we are fortunate to have a holiday home on near Lake Tahoe so were able to visit there periodically throughout the year to get a break.
- Simon finally left his job at Confluent, a rapidly-growing startup, in August. He is now building his own consulting business advising startups. He is still scuba diving when the opportunity presents itself which he greatly enjoys.
- The real "curve ball" for 2020 was that Debi received a breast cancer diagnosis in October. Fortunately it was caught very early. Her surgery went well and she is combining the best of conventional and integrative care. She is doing extremely well and her medical team are confident of a complete recovery
- There were two milestone birthdays in 2020 - Debi's mum Doreen was 90 in May and Simon's dad Ken was 80 in December. Unfortunately we were not able to attend either due to COVID travel restrictions but we hope to catch up in 2021
- Sadly, our beloved labrador Reilly "crossed the Rainbow Bridge" in August, having lived to the ripe old age of 14 years and 3 months. He was a great dog and will be greatly missed. Rosie is still with us and will be 14 in January.
- Finally, we have decided to move to our home in Incline Village, Nevada, next to beautiful Lake Tahoe, in the spring of 2021. We have a lot of work ahead of us to make that happen and will keep you posted when we move.
